Kano Governor Abba Yusuf Meets President Tinubu Amid Stalled Defection Rumours

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf met with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja on Monday, as speculation continues over his delayed defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor, seen in his signature white attire and red "Kwankwasiyya" cap, visited the president's office around 4:13 p.m.—his first known meeting with Tinubu since the president returned from the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.

Yusuf's potential move from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the APC has been the subject of ongoing reports and has faced multiple postponements this month. According to sources, discussions have stalled over the APC's reluctance to grant Yusuf a documented guarantee of an automatic governorship ticket for the 2027 elections.

His political mentor and former governor of Kano, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has publicly criticized the planned defection as an act of betrayal and warned that Yusuf could face electoral consequences if he switches parties.
