Kidnappers Demand ₦200 Million Ransom for Edo Doctor and Brother

Gunmen have demanded a ₦200 million ransom for the release of two brothers—Dr. Ibrahim Tahir, a houseman at Edo State Teaching Hospital in Auchi, and his brother Abu—who were kidnapped on January 2.

Their father, Momoh Tahir, confirmed the demand, stating that after negotiations the kidnappers reduced the ransom to ₦100 million. The family remains hopeful for a further reduction and the safe return of the victims.

“It’s a trying period for the family, but I pray that they will come back home safely,” he said.

Police Response

Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, said a joint search operation involving police, vigilantes, and local volunteers began immediately after the abduction was reported. She assured the public that efforts are ongoing to rescue the brothers unharmed.

The abduction occurred outside the doctor's residence on City Pride Road in Auchi as he returned from work, highlighting the persistent insecurity affecting residents and professionals in the area.
