Presidency Withdraws Dakingari’s Appointment as Turkey Ambassador-Designate Within 24 Hours

In a swift reversal, the Presidency has withdrawn the appointment of former Kebbi State Governor Usman Dakingari as Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Turkey, barely one day after announcing his posting.

The initial list of ambassadorial postings released on Thursday night had included Dakingari alongside three other envoys: Kayode Are (United States), Ayodele Oke (France), and Amin Dalhatu (United Kingdom).

However, in a follow-up statement on Friday by Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, Dakingari’s name was omitted, confirming that his appointment had been rescinded. No reason was provided for the sudden change.

The statement reiterated the postings of Are, Oke, and Dalhatu, noting that President Bola Tinubu has formally notified the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to inform the respective host governments in line with diplomatic protocols.

The withdrawal comes just days ahead of President Tinubu’s scheduled state visit to Turkey next week.
