Popular Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, known as Simi, has opened up about the personal health challenges that caused the postponement of her highly anticipated song, “Where You Dey,” featuring fellow artist Chike.
In a candid post on her X (formerly Twitter) account, Simi explained that she had initially planned to release the track last year after a well-received snippet. However, a period of illness and exhaustion made completing the project impossible at the time.
“I was sick and weak and nauseous and tired and my body just wouldn’t do what I wanted it to,” the singer shared. She revealed that even the snippet video was recorded while she was unwell, noting, “I was just trying my best.”
Simi praised Chike’s professionalism, calling him the “perfect collaborator.” She explained that although he was out of town when first contacted, he came to her studio immediately upon his return—unaware that she was pregnant and struggling physically at the time.
Reflecting on the process, Simi expressed surprise at the energy she managed to summon during recording. She also disclosed that she personally handled the mixing and mastering of the song, despite disliking the mastering process.
The singer admitted her disappointment at missing the original release deadline, especially given the fans’ enthusiastic response to the preview. She asked listeners to “give it the energy that I couldn’t,” emphasizing that “a lot of love and resilience went into this song.”
In a pointed postscript, Simi addressed long-running rumors that she abandoned her music career after marriage, implying that the release of this song serves as her direct response to such claims.
