Gunmen Attack Police Station, Burn Church, and Abduct Five in Niger State Community

Gunmen launched a coordinated attack in the Agwara community of Niger State in the early hours of Sunday, setting a police station and part of a church ablaze and abducting five residents.

The Niger State Police Command confirmed the incident through its Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, who stated that the assailants stormed the Agwara Police Station around 3:40 a.m. Officers on duty engaged the attackers but were overpowered. The gunmen reportedly used dynamite to ignite the station.

Following the attack on the police facility, the assailants proceeded to the United Methodist Church (UMC) in the same community and set part of the building on fire. They subsequently abducted five individuals from other areas within Agwara.

Abiodun noted that security agencies have launched an investigation and intensified efforts to track the perpetrators and rescue the abducted victims. "The situation is being monitored, and further developments will be communicated in due course," he said.
