Pastor Leke Adeboye, son of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has publicly addressed growing speculation about the future leadership of the church, firmly stating he is not seeking to succeed his father.
In a recent speaking engagement, Leke Adeboye described the role of General Overseer as a tremendous spiritual responsibility—one he has no ambition to assume.
“I am not aiming to become the General Overseer of RCCG. It’s a lot to carry, especially when you see it from the backend,” he stated, emphasizing that many only witness the public side of church leadership without understanding the profound accountability involved.
He clarified that his close involvement in his father’s ministry stems from a sense of divine duty, not personal ambition. “A time will come when we will all give account to the Lord. The access you have, the positions you have, were given to you,” he noted.
Addressing why he actively supports his father’s continued vitality in ministry, Leke explained, “Some people ask me why I am pushing to ensure our father in the Lord is able to surprise us… My understanding is simple: I know I will give account when I get to heaven.”
He painted a vivid picture of the weight carried by his father, who at over 80 years old maintains a rigorous spiritual discipline. “At 83, 84, when your mates are chilling and retiring, you are still doing dry fasts. You are waking up by 3:00am for prayer walks.”
Leke also highlighted the scale of Pastor Adeboye’s oversight—more than 20,000 parishes and a global body of believers who look to him as a spiritual father. “There are thousands of churches on one side, and the entire body of Christ calling you ‘father’ and saying, ‘pray for us.’”
Concluding his remarks, he reiterated that his focus remains on stewardship, not succession. “You were the GO’s son, and I’m not aiming to be the GO. It’s a lot to carry.”
His comments underscore a perspective of leadership defined by eternal accountability rather than earthly position.
