Imo Police Confirm Arrest of Motorcycle Rider for Alleged Role in Kidnapping Operations

The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a commercial motorcycle operator, popularly known as an okada rider, for allegedly aiding a series of kidnappings in the World Bank area of Owerri.

According to police authorities, the suspect was apprehended during a raid on his hideout in the World Bank district, where 15 AK-47 rifles and other ammunition were recovered.

The suspect reportedly confessed to involvement in multiple abduction incidents in the area and its environs. Residents welcomed the arrest as a significant step in improving local security.

Henry Okoye, the police spokesperson, clarified that the operation was conducted by officers from the Nigeria Police Force headquarters in Abuja, in coordination with the state command.

“It is true that we are aware of the information, but it was police from Abuja headquarters that effected the arrest,” Okoye stated.

He added that investigations are ongoing to identify other members of the kidnapping network and recover additional weapons.
