Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has publicly declared that aligning with President Bola Tinubu will not secure future political tickets, a statement widely interpreted as a direct message to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Speaking in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State on Sunday, the former governor dismissed the electoral value of what he characterized as recent or convenient political support. He mocked latecomers to Tinubu's camp, suggesting their newfound allegiance would not yield electoral rewards.
In his own words, Wike stated, "The issue is not whether you are supporting Tinubu. That one, we have taken too long... That cannot give you any ticket, oh. Direct, direct. It will not."
The Claim of Proven, Early Loyalty
Wike emphasized the significance of loyalty demonstrated during difficult periods, contrasting it with support offered after victory was assured. He reminded the audience that his political faction and the Rivers State House of Assembly had publicly endorsed Tinubu long before the election's outcome was certain.
"Some of those now making public declarations were absent during the critical period," Wike asserted, underscoring that political trust is earned through longstanding commitment rather than post-crisis alignment.
Political analysts view the minister's statement as a coded warning ahead of the 2027 general elections, delineating a clear line between those with what he considers proven loyalty and others. Wike, a dominant figure in Rivers politics, defended the projects from his gubernatorial tenure and stressed that governance is a continuous process, often implicitly challenging a successor's record.
