Former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has made an emotional return to the gym, sharing videos of his training just 19 days after surviving a tragic car accident that claimed the lives of two close associates.
Joshua, 36, was involved in a collision on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on December 29, 2025, when his Lexus SUV rammed into a stationary truck. His personal trainer, Kevin Latif Ayodele, and strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, died at the scene. Joshua sustained minor injuries, received treatment in Nigeria, and later returned to the United Kingdom, where he attended their funeral prayer in London.
Training as Therapy
In a post showing him engaged in a sparring session, the British-Nigerian boxer captioned the clip **“mental strength therapy,”** signaling his use of physical training to cope with the trauma and grief of the incident.
The videos also captured him performing strength exercises, spinning, and swimming, marking a determined step back into his routine amid profound personal loss.
Joshua’s return to training is being viewed as both a physical and psychological effort to regain normalcy following the devastating event. The accident had sent shockwaves through the global boxing community, with many expressing condolences for the loss of his longtime team members.
