Detained Nigerian Military Aircraft Completes Transit, Arrives in Portugal for Maintenance

A Nigerian Air Force C-130 transport aircraft that was previously detained in Burkina Faso has safely completed its journey and arrived at its intended maintenance facility in Portugal.

According to a statement from Air Force spokesman Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the aircraft, designated NAF 913, arrived at the OGMA maintenance facility in Lisbon on Friday, December 26. The flight followed an updated route, transiting through Banjul, The Gambia, and Casablanca, Morocco, to comply with international aviation procedures.

The Air Force emphasized that the ferry flight was completed without incident and that all personnel on board are safe. The statement thanked the authorities in the transit countries for their cooperation and reaffirmed the Air Force's commitment to safety and professionalism.

This arrival concludes a disrupted logistical mission that began when the aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing in Burkina Faso on December 8, leading to a diplomatic standoff and a 12-day detention of the crew and aircraft before their release.
