Foreign Minister Confirms Nigeria Provided Intelligence for US Airstrikes

Nigeria's Foreign Minister, Yusuf Tuggar, has confirmed that his government played a direct role in the recent US airstrikes targeting terrorist groups in Sokoto State. Speaking in an interview on Friday, Tuggar stated that Nigeria provided key military intelligence that facilitated the operation, emphasizing it was a coordinated effort between the two nations.

According to the Minister, he was in direct communication with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in the moments leading up to the strike. "We spoke with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio twice: once 19 minutes before the strike and another time 5 minutes before it went on," Tuggar explained.

He further clarified that President Bola Tinubu authorized the joint military action, which was framed as part of a broader collaboration to combat terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping. Tuggar stressed that the operation was not aimed at any specific religious or ethnic group, stating, "We are a multi-religious country, and we are working with partners like the US to fight terrorism and safeguard the lives and properties of Nigerians."

The statement serves as an official acknowledgment of Nigeria's active partnership in the US-led strike and seeks to contextualize the action as a shared security measure rather than a unilateral foreign intervention.
