AMAC Chairmanship Hopeful, Moses Paul, Seeks Wike’s Endorsement, Brands Himself “Mr Project”

Moses Paul, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the upcoming Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship election, has publicly appealed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to support his candidacy, aligning himself with the minister’s reputation for performance-driven governance.

Speaking in an interview on 90Minutes Africa, Paul drew parallels between his own style and Wike’s “Mr Project” brand—a moniker the minister earned during his tenure as Rivers State governor for his aggressive infrastructure development.

Aligning with Wike’s Performance Critique

Paul referenced Wike's recent criticism of the current AMAC administration for failing to provide operational vehicles to security agencies. The minister had contrasted this with his own record as a former local government chairman in Rivers State.

The ADC candidate argued that his actions already reflect the tangible results Wike champions. “For me, who is not yet on the seat, I’m already fixing schools and primary healthcare centres; I think naturally I should be Mr Wike’s candidate,” Paul stated.

He highlighted his personal initiatives in renovating primary schools and upgrading healthcare centers within AMAC as proof of his readiness and commitment to grassroots development.

A Call for Credible Individuals in Politics

Paul, who also serves as an aide to former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, emphasized the need for individuals of “value, character and moral conscience” to enter politics to drive national progress.

“Nation building, leadership, good governance and accountability are meaningless if we don’t participate in politics,” he asserted. “People of value... must come into politics because it is the road to everything we desire as a nation.”

He stressed the strategic importance of AMAC, which hosts the Presidency, foreign embassies, and major businesses, stating that its leadership requires competence, discipline, and a proven service record—qualities he claims to embody.

The AMAC chairmanship election is scheduled for February 21, 2026. Paul’s direct appeal to Wike signals an attempt to leverage the minister’s influence and performance-based political philosophy in the contest for the capital city’s most prominent area council.
